BUT, when I went to looking for my first composite stock gun, I went home with a Benelli Super Nova. They had a black version in the rack.This again.. hmm. Said it many times; I own both a Mossberg 500 and a 870 and the 870 is a much better gun. Few things have been mentioned, like the position of the safety on the 500 is kind of bad. Where I really notice the difference though is the feel of the gun. I came across it used and the price was right and it just felt more solid.
