However, a TPK is a bit more than just a consequence of death. As the campaign progresses, the party becomes an increasingly important part of the overarching story. TPK is a major fail state and even PC death is uncommon with experienced players in OD&D/AD&D. Close brushes and the constant threat yes, but you should grow out of the TPKs.
